My wife and I saw you open for Bob Dylan in Rochester a year and a half ago. We just read that you are going to be in Syracuse tonight. I am calling in sick just to see you. We downloaded your cd from itunes and listen to it all the time. You are great. We are looking forward to seeing you. Thank you for coming to the snow belt...

Elana,

I just wanted to pass on some information to you and everyone else reading this journal. Last Oct 19, you played a concert in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park at the Happy Days Lodge near Peninsula Ohio.

The show was recorded, and just recently released on the Folk Alley website. http://www.folkalley.com/music/livefrom/elana_james/  This is an absolutely first class recording. Audio only, but worth a listen. It's just too good not to pass it on, and I feel the need to share it with all your fans.

Please come back to our area real soon. We love you in Ohio.

My wife and I are transplanted Amerikans who are having a ball in Australia and enjoying the music and culture of this great country whenever my job doesn't get in the way.  We cannot wait to see you in Oz at the music festivals, and I will have to get you to sign my copy of Dev'lish Mary that I have carried with me around the world.  See you Down Under and have a safe journey here.  Warren B.

Howdy Elana,
I saw you guys perform again in Nocona last night.  What a show!  You, Whit and Jake were really great.  I was very pleased to see you in my neck o' the woods.  I hope we made you feel welcome.  I talked to a lot of people there that had not heard y'all play before, and they were impressed with your music.  I brought my aunt and uncle with us, and he said he had not enjoyed a concert that much since he saw Bob Wills perform in person (and that's sure been a long time!).  Thanks for the autograph, and I'll catch your show again next time I get the chance.

I enjoyed your band's appearances in East Lansing at the GL Folk Fest this summer, and again at LVD's a few weeks ago.  Whit Smith is a remarkable guitarist.  Even though my window faces North, I hope that you and your band will visit the Great Lakes region again soon.

Elana,
It was a pleasure to "perform" with you at the wedding Saturday night.  It took me most of the evening to find out who you were.  Everyone kept saying "Bob Dylan's fiddle player".  Finally the father of the groom let slip "Hot Club of Cowtown".  I've enjoyed your music for years, just never seen you.  Sincere regards and best wishes.  Thank you for being so approachable and pleasant.

I had the awesome opportunity to see you and your guys last night in Alliance, Ne with my guy.  WOW!  Were there flames shooting off your fingers during The Orange Blossom Special??  We both really had a great time, although I was a little disappointed that he didn't waltz with me at your invitation.  However.........maybe next time.  Hopefully you will get more gigs up in our neck of the plains, and if not we may have to seek you out at some point in the future.  It was a great show, and very obvious that you all really love what you do.  Not all of us can say that so your enjoyment was a treat to see.
Best wishes,
Donna Lee

My wife and I attended your show this past weekend at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park's Happy Days Visitor Center. Sorry to hear of all the problems and delays that you guys had on Friday getting into the Cleveland area. But you did make it to the show on time, and what an outstanding performance it was! Your previous appearance in our area was earlier this year at the Beachland Tavern; you were the opening act for Bruce Robison, and we were limited to hear just a short set from your Trio. It was great to experience an entire show of your amazing musical talent.

I was first exposed to your music by listening to the local NPR station 89.7 out of Kent Ohio. They play folk and other music on weekend evenings.

I was speaking with Tom Ball from 91.3 radio at the concert. He was trying to get an interview with you before the show, but because of the problems and delays, it didn't happen. I hope that he was able to talk with you after the performance. Also, the concert was recorded by the Folk Alley people, and will be broadcast on line sometime in the near future. I cant wait to get my ears on that one!

I want to thank you and Whit for signing all of my Cowtown Cd's and letting me take your picture. We just love your style of western swing and southwest music. Please come back to our area real soon.

A Very big fan, Don

Elana, Whit, Jake & Cindy,

Wow and thank you so much for gracing the NFF with your music and energy. Thanks for signing our festival map. My parents were absolutely thrilled to meet all of you. I turned them on to Hot Club and your solo stuff over the last year and they have just gone ga-ga. Now that they have seen you live and know what it is really about, you have some new real fans.

We made sure to camp out and have great seats for all three sets. Sixth row Friday, Front row Saturday, Second row for the workshop and after saving our front row seats (while suffering through that preceding act) on Sunday, we surrendered to the mosh pit. All three sets were amazing, but Sunday absolutely sizzled. So glad that you were able to get in OBS and an encore before getting the hook like you did on Saturday during the live feed.

The fiddle workshop was truly a treat. The moderator was so knowledgable and all of the the participants were incredibly personable. Not to mention amazing musicians. Of course we loved the Western Chinese Swing that you and Thomas Lee threw together. What a neat opportunity.

It was great to see Jake again. I had almost forgot what an animal he is. He is an absolute hoot.

Based on the mass of humanity at the dance pavilion and the new entries in your guestbook, I know you have gained many new fans. We wish you all the success that you deserve, but hope we still get to see you in little places like the Wagon Shed and the Kennedy Center River Terrace.

With all of the Mid Atlantic fans that you now have, I hope your schedule brings you back soon. I don't think I can wait until next May to get my fix at the WV Wine and Arts Festival. We may need to come to Texas if you don't make it to us.

Take care and thanks again,

Jim & Krista

Elana what can I say! I thought you were the most wonderful thing at the Richmond Folk Festival. Thank you so much for signing your CD that I bought. I listened to it as soon as I got home. I aslo saw you in the fiddle workshop. AMAZING! You brought alot of energy to the stage with you yesterday and the crowd loved it. You're a very sweet person, and I'd love to see you again sometime. I hope you enjoyed being in Richmond because I enjoyed you being there!

Thank You

Hello Elana, you were absolutely wonderful in the fiddle workshop this afternoon at the Richmond folk festival. I liked your first heart breaking song and your great duo with the Chinese 2 string fiddle player. I also enjoyed your beautiful smile and the happiness you obviously had playing for the audience. It was also so nice to see how you asked the other musicians to join in and play rhythm or backup. You have a wonderful way of bringing people together and making them happy. Happiness is in very short supply these days so keep up the good work Elena. Best of luck to you and your musician friends. Steve C. Ashland VA

Okay, so we're absolutely speechless. Y'all take our breath! We delightfully discovered our new favorite group at the National Folk Festival in Richmond, VA last night (10/12). As the MC said, "you'd have to be dead to not enjoy this!" You were on FIRE, sizzling,  sinfully delicious, mesmerizing, breathtaking, funny as h..., amazing, like four spicy-hot red peppers just burning up the stage with your heat, radiance, and talent. Perfectly matched and oh so wicked, you delivered in-your-face western swing with flair & vigor. In fact, y'all (including Ms. Cashdollar) are the real deal, the Wizards of Swing. You can bet we'll be there today (whether we're standin' or sittin'), everytime you play...ready to sing, swing, squeal with delight. Simply put, we think the Devil came up to Richmond last night with some Texas hot sauce & rosined up those fingers and bows til the fire was so hot it burned the place down & stole away our hearts & souls! Though they say that the South will indeed rise again, we hope we never do. Let's just pray those lights go out and stay out and keep spreadin' that JOY... 'deed we do, 24 hours a day.
Thanks.
